How do you move a ground level shipping container for storage?

Great question! How do you move a big steel box without wheels? We do it a few ways.


1. With a chassis. Chassis are widely used by truckers to move freight over the road. There are 20' ,40', 45', 48' and 53' chassis available. Think of chassis as a set of wheels and a frame for the container to sit on. Once a shipping container is on a chassis, it is ready for a semi-tractor to pull it. Containers are loaded onto container chassis by overhead cranes or forklifts. This is one of the best methods to 

move loaded containers.

2. With a roll back wrecker. You know the kind, the trucks with a short bed that move cars around. This works well for 20' containers only. It is not always possible to move loaded containers with roll off wreckers. The wench can only handle a certain amount of weight. In addition, the contents will shift when loaded. This method is great for empty, 20' containers.

3. A roll back delivery trailer. This is used for two 20' units at once, 40', 45', 48' & 53' containers. Not all companies can move larger that 40' units, but we can. This is a similar set up to a small roll back wrecker truck, but much larger. This is not an advisable method for moving loaded containers, but works very well for empty units.

Last but not least, flatbeds, lowboys and hotshot trailers can be used. I am sure there are other types of equipment that I am not mentioning, but these are the most common methods.
