What is an HC container or high cube container?

40' HC Container next to standard height 20' Container in Atlanta, GA

What does high cube or HC mean when talking about shipping containers? A standard size container is 8.6' tall outside, a high cube is a foot taller at 9.6'. Most HC containers are 40', 45' 48' & 53'. There are 20' HC that I see as new units, but they are rare.

Below are a few other dimensions for 45' HC steel units to give you an idea of weight and cubic capacity. Please call me if I can assist you with the purchase or rental of storage containers or storage semi-trailers. Addie Turner with Atlas Sales & Leasing, Inc. 678-380-9980. 1. I like how the article explains the size and space of 40ft high cube containers. It's good for people like me who want to use them for storing or shipping things.
