What is an HC shipping container?

Hello!

If you are shopping for a shipping container, you will hear the industry term HC or High Cube or High Capacity shipping container. I am asked daily-what does HC or High Cube mean? Let me explain...

Storage containers come in two heights:

8' 6" are usually called standards or standard height containers. 20's and 40's are found in this size.

9' 6" are called high cube-HC-or high capacity. 20's are rare and usually sold in this size as one trip/new. 40's are commonly found in this size. 45', 48' & 53' containers are always high cube. At this time, 48's & 53's are hard to find new or used. The most common size is a 40' HC. In some cities, you may find 40' high cubes.

Note my photo below of two 40' containers. The unit to the left is a high cube storage container.
