Buying Shipping Containers on Craigslist and Ebay. A little advice.

Buying Shipping Containers Online. What to watch for....

Used 40' Shipping Containers

Looking for a new or used shipping container, but concerned with buying online? Let's cover a few guidelines to ensure a good transaction.

First-let me disclose, I sell online at various websites. I won't mention them all, but several that you have heard from.

So, my suggestions:

1. Buy from someone with a real address. When you see sellers with 32 locations, locations nationwide-then that is a sign that you are dealing with a broker, not a dealer. They don't really have nationwide locations, or any locations at all. This will thin out most sellers. I have two locations-real places, with real equipment. I am in Charlotte & Atlanta. I have and will broker equipment for customers in other cities. The difference is I am transparent and very honest about the process.

2. All used equipment is "cargo worthy". That is a big red flag for me. Read my article on cargo worthy shipping containers.

3. Sellers stumble around. If your seller can't give you pricing, availability and a delivery date-move on. Many "nationwide" sellers are spread thin and have no idea what is available in your market. As mentioned, I have facilities that serve the SE. I know my inventory and can give trucking quotes quickly. I am not the only reputable dealer around-there are a few of us. :)

4. Google is your friend. Google the company name, the owner's name. I have watched one seller change his company name three times in three years. He has to, he isn't reputable seller. Google, Facebook and other sites are really helpful.

There are some funky monkeys on Craigslist and Ebay. Call and do your due diligence.

  1. Currently it seems like Expression Engine is the preferred blogging platform available right now. (from what I've read) Is that what you are using on your blog?
